PROGRAMMING HIGHLIGHTS:
Winterfest continues with more great musical programs tonight! At 7PM, check out an Australian pop group, Human Nature, as they perform Motown hits along with the great Smokey Robinson. At 8:30, Johnny Mathis revisits his hit songs and shows some vintage TV clips.
Tuesday night, we will take a trip back in Louisiana history. At 7, see the premiere of Bill Rodman's & Flo Ulmer's Making a Way, which tells of a couple that takes a journey back to their African American beginnings - to plantation country in north Louisiana. At 8:30, we will have another Bill Rodman/Flo Ulmer production, Spirit of a Culture: Cane River Creoles which recounts the struggle of the Cane River Creoles.
Back to music Wednesday night with Straight No Chaser. This holiday special includes everything from Doo Wop to modern pop. You will also hear details of their Shreveport and Baton Rouge concerts.
Thursday night, we will get a little animated. At 7, William Joyce, well known to LPB audiences for George Shrinks, will be in the studio along with Brandon Oldenburg - they are the forces behind Shreveport's Moonbot Studios. Go behind the scenes and take a look at their animated short film that just may be an Academy Award contender! At 8, catch up with the less-than-animated Doc Martin.
Friday night, we bring you all the news from around the state, and around the country, starting at 7 with our own Louisiana: The State We're In. At 9, see the best of six Cirque du Soleil Las Vegas productions.
Saturday night at 7, relive the Big Band era with Lawrence Welk's Big Band Splash! At 8, Comedy and music are combined with recently re-discovered and most memorable skits from Victor Borge.
Sunday, LPB will bring you some of the "greatest hits" of Winterfest!

SUBMIT YOUR YOUNG HEROES NOMINATIONS
Almost every day on the news, you'll hear about a young person in trouble -- often the students who do exceptionally well in the classroom or make a huge difference in their community do not receive the recognition they deserve. That’s why LPB and the Rotary Club of Baton Rouge created the Louisiana Young Heroes Awards. Now in its 17th year, the awards honor students in grades 7-12 who have excelled in the classroom, have served their community or have shown great courage in overcoming adversity in their own lives.
Nominations are now being taken for the 2011 Louisiana Young Heroes Awards. Students must be enrolled in a Louisiana school or home-schooled and cannot be older than 19 years of age.
Some of our previous Young Heroes have overcome physical handicaps or personal tragedies, helped others after hurricanes, cared for family members, started charitable foundations, and even saved lives. You can read profiles and see videos of previous years' Young Heroes on our website.
Nomination forms can be downloaded from the LPB website or submitted through the online form. Letters of recognition and other supporting materials should be sent to support the nomination. Students who have been nominated in past years may be re-nominated for this year’s awards. Previous winners are not eligible. The deadline for entries is Friday, February 3, 2012.
Louisiana Young Heroes Day will be April 18, 2011. The Young Heroes will be treated to a day full of activities including lunch on the grounds of the Governor’s Mansion. The day will culminate in a banquet that night in Baton Rouge.
The awards are co-presented by the Baton Rouge Rotary Club and underwritten by ExxonMobil.
