Join us for what should be a spirited discussion on how to solve the state’s 1.6-billion dollar budget shortfall Wednesday at 7PM on Louisiana Public Square. And get ready for a news series called South Riding on Masterpiece this Sunday!

Tonight at 9:30, we will have an encore showing of Governor Jindal’s address to the Joint Session of the Legislature. Monday also marks the start of Capitol Beat, our nightly wrap up of the day’s events at the Legislature. It airs weekdays at 6:57 and 9:57PM and mornings at 5:57 through the session. For a summary of the week’s events, check out Louisiana: The State We’re In at 7PM on Friday and Sunday at 2PM.

On Tuesday, we have an encore showing of the final installment of Upstairs, Downstairs at 7, followed by Professor Henry Louis Gates, Jr.’s series Black in Latin America at 8.

On Wednesday at 7, Louisiana Public Square’s discussion of the budget at 7 followed by NOVA’s look at how the terrain and wildlife around Mt. St. Helens have come back since the volcano’s eruption 30 year’s ago.

On Thursday at 7, Chef Folse is cooking Venison Sauce Piquante and Doc Martin is not thrilled with Louisa’s midwife at 9PM.

On Sunday, South Riding (8PM) tells the story of a new young teacher who shakes up a stodgy English town.

THE LOUISIANA LEGENDS GALA AND AUCTION SET FOR MAY 5

This year’s outstanding honorees include Academy Award-nominated and Emmy-winning composer Bill Conti, retired Lt. General Russel Honoré, Lake Charles philanthropist Laura Leach, Shreveport businessman and philanthropist Norman Kinsey, and former LSU and St. Louis Cardinal football player and LSU Coach Jerry Stovall.

EIGHT LOUISIANA YOUNG HEROES HONORED

LPB LPB and the Rotary Club of Baton Rouge honored the eight winners of the 2011 Louisiana Young Heroes Awards on Wednesday with ceremonies at the Governor’s Mansion and the Baton Rouge Marriott. Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Louisiana and ExxonMobil are the underwriters of the program, which is now in its 16th year. Here are this year’s winners:

Charlton Boyd, 15, a ninth grader at Loyola College Prep in Shreveport
Samuel Cooper, 18, a senior at Evangel Christian Academy in Shreveport
Cassidy Crews, 16, a junior at Buckeye High School who lives in Deville
Jenna Mitchell, 17, a junior at Slidell High School
Shaela Nelson, 16, a junior at Scotlandville Magnet High School in Baton Rouge
Katherine Rashall of Ida, 17, a senior at North Caddo High School
