Our membership campaign continues this week with specials featuring former American Idol runner-up Clay Aiken and an inspirational concert featuring 4Troops, a group of Iraq and Afghanistan War Veterans. Your financial support allows us to purchase and create the programming you enjoy throughout the year, so please renew your membership if it has expired or join LPB if you are not already a member.
Tonight at 7PM, it’s Antiques Roadshow followed at 8:30 by Video Games Live featuring music from the most popular video games of all time.
On Tuesday at 7, it’s Clay Aiken: Tried and True Live featuring “Mack the Knife,” “Misty,” “Moon River” and other classics.
On Wednesday at 7, two members of the pop vocal group 4TROOPS will be in the LPB studios for the premiere of their special Live from the Intrepid. All four members of the group are veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars. Former Captain Meredith Melcher and former Sergeant David Clemo are the group members who will be at LPB to introduce the show and perform. The special includes performances of “For Freedom,” “You’re A Grand Old Flag,” “America the Beautiful,” “You Raise Me Up,” “Amazing Grace,” and more. That’s followed by Fats Domino - Walkin’ Back to New Orleans at 8:30PM.
On Thursday at 7, it’s Forever LSU, LPB’s documentary on the 150-year history of Louisiana State University.
On Friday at 9:30PM, 70s hitmakers Three Dog Night, Debby Boone, B.J. Thomas and Gloria Gaynor take the stage for Marvin Hamlisch Presents: The Way We Were...The 70s.
On Saturday, we have a special appearance by Lidia Bastianich at 2:30PM (See details below) and John Denver’s A Song’s Best Friend at 9PM.
On Sunday at 6:30, it’s The Canadian Tenors – Live in Toronto followed by Hit Man: David Foster & Friends featuring Celine Dion, Josh Groban, Andre Bocelli and many others.
CHRISTMAS IN JULY
Everyone broke out their Christmas sweaters and ties for our special wrap party for our After the Hunt series with Chef John Folse. We even got a special visit from Papa Noel who helped John in the kitchen for the Christmas special which will air in December.. Look for a special preview of the After the Hunt series on Tuesday, August 10 at 7PM and the premiere of the series on September 23 when it will start airing every Thursday at 7PM and Saturdays at 1PM. We would to like to thank all the staff at LPB and Chef Folse’s staff for pitching in to make the series fun and entertaining.
LIDIA IS COMING TO TOWN
We have two chances for you to meet famed Public Television Chef Lidia Bastianich this Saturday, August 7. She will make a special appearance at the Red Stick Farmers Market in Baton Rouge from 9 to 11AM which will include a book signing for her latest book Lidia Cooks from the Heart of Italy from 9 to 10:30AM and Chef Peter Sclafani from Ruffino’s Italian Restaurant in Baton Rouge will also prepare some of Lidia’s favorite recipes from 10:30 to 11AM. The Red Stick Farmers Market event is free and open to the public.
From 2:30-4:30PM, she will appear live on LPB during the airing of her special Lidia’s The Best of Italy.
At 7PM, LPB and Lidia will hold a wine tasting from 7 to 9PM. Catering will be provided by White Oak Plantation. The cost is $75 per person. Call Friends at (225) 767-4214 or 1-800-272-8161, ext. 4214 for more information.
MEET LONGTIME LAWRENCE SHOW STAR RALNA ENGLISH ON AUGUST 14TH
Singer Ralna English, the longtime star of The Lawrence Welk Show, will be here in Baton Rouge on Saturday, August 14th. Friends of LPB will host a special meet and greet with Ralna from 6 to 7PM in the LPB Auditorium. Tickets for the meet and greet are only $20 each. Starting at 7, Ralna will be live in the LPB Studios during the airing of The Welk Stars - Through the Years, a look back at the five decades of Welk shows and specials featuring performances by the Champagne Music Makers.
