New year, new Britcoms. We have two new British comedies premiering this week. Black Books (Thursdays at 7:30PM) is the story of a small bookstore and its eccentric owner. Old Guys (Saturdays at 8:30) is the story of two retired men who both fancy their next door neighbor played by Jane Asher. (Beatles fans will remember that Jane was Paul McCartney’s girlfriend in the 1960s). One of the pensioners is played by Clive Swift, best known as Hyacinth’s long suffering husband Richard on Keeping Up Appearances.
The new Saturday lineup is Last of the Summer Wine at 8, Old Guys at 8:30, Keeping Up Appearances at 9PM and After You’ve Gone at 9:30PM.

Also this week:
Tonight at 7, it’s the season premiere of Antiques Roadshow followed by a biography of Robert E Lee on American Experience at 8PM.

Great Performances at the Met features Don Pasquale on Wednesday at 8 followed by The Golden Band from Tigerland at 10:30PM.

On Thursday at 7, Chef Folse is cooking frog legs at 7 on After the Hunt with Chef John Folse and Doc Martin has to face complaints that he is rude to patients at 9.

On Friday at 9:30, it’s the premiere of The Artist Toolbox with a profile of violinist David Garrett.

On Sunday at 8, it’s the premiere of Downton Abbey, a new four-part Masterpiece Classic.

Allegria takes audiences on a journey through a fantastical world filled with whimsical clowns, haunting music and astounding physical feats and Friends of LPB has tickets for opening night! The show will be performed at the Baton Rouge River Center on Wednesday, January 5th.

CELTIC WOMAN TO PERFORM IN NEW ORLEANS AND BOSSIER CITY

LPB Don’t miss your opportunity to see these fabulous ladies sing all of your Celtic Woman favorites along with the music from their new PBS Exclusive CD, Lullaby. Violinist Mairead Nesbitt and vocalists Lisa Kelly and Chloe Agnew will return along with the newest addition to the group, vocalist Lisa Lambe. The ladies will be in New Orleans at the Mahalia Jackson Theatre on February 14th and in Bossier City at the CenturyTel Center on May 14th. IT’S BARNEY’S BIRTHDAY!

LPB The big purple dinosaur is coming to Louisiana and LPB has great seats for his concerts in Baton Rouge on January 23rd, Lake Charles on February 1st, and Lafayette on February 8th. NOMINATE A YOUNG HERO

LPB Nominations are now being accepted for the 2011 Louisiana Young Heroes Awards. The competition is open to all Louisiana students in grades 7-12. We are looking for outstanding students who have served their community, overcome adversity and inspired others.

LPB and the Rotary Club of Baton Rouge are the presenters of the awards which are underwritten by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana and ExxonMobil.

Nomination forms can be downloaded from the LPB website or submitted through the online form. Letters of recognition and other supporting materials should be sent to support the nomination. Students who have been nominated in past years may be re-nominated for this year’s awards. Previous winners are not eligible. The deadline for entries is Friday, February 4, 2011. Winners will be announced on LPB and WLAE on March 4, 2011.
