LPB AND BLUE CROSS AND BLUE SHIELD OF LOUISIANA LAUNCH STEP IT UP!
LPB and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana are joining forces to help the young people of Louisiana lose weight and get in shape. The project is called Step It Up! and is funded by a $38,000 grant from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana. LPB will provide information from health professionals for tweens and teens on the best ways to control or reduce their weight and get in shape. Using a social media online network, young people will be motivated and encouraged to get active and eat healthier. Schools and youth groups across the state will participate in activities designed to encourage a healthy lifestyle. The online content will include excerpts from LPB’s award-winning series Kids: Trying to Trim Down and Step by Step: Kids Trimming Down produced by LPB’s Dorothy Kendrick. Health professionals will also answer questions online and provide tips for children and their parents on the best ways to successfully tackle childhood obesity.
JOIN LPB AND THE LOUISIANA ASSOCIATION OF EDUCATORS AS WE READ ACROSS LOUISIANA - AND AMERICA!
On Saturday, February 26th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., LPB and the Louisiana Association of Educators will present Read Across Louisiana at the Mall of Louisiana in Baton Rouge. Bring the kids out to hear wonderful stories read to them by local celebrities and others. There will also be literacy-related hands-on activities and giveaways. Similar events will be taking place on that date at these locations around the state:
Prien Lake Mall - 496 West Prien Lake Road, Lake Charles
Mall of Acadiana - 5725 Johnston Street, Lafayette
The Boardwalk - 540 Boardwalk Boulevard, Bossier City.
Alexandria Mall - 3437 Masonic Drive, Alexandria
Pecanland Mall - 4700 Milhaven Road #200, Monroe
Then, we are asking schools, daycares and other groups to join in the fun on March 2nd as LPB and LAE sponsor Read Across Louisiana.
We are asking teachers, parents, grandparents and other interested parties to their child’s school or daycare and read Dr. Seuss’ The Cat in the Hat to the class at 10AM that day. Of course, we chose The Cat in the Hat because of our popular new children’s program The Cat in the Hat Knows A Lot About That! We chose March 2nd because that would have been Dr. Seuss’ (Theodore Geisel) 107th birthday.
Every class that participates is eligible for drawing for a visit by The Cat in the Hat to their school. We also encourage everyone to upload their activities from that day to our Facebook event page.
