Tonight at 7, Antiques Roadshow opens its 14th season with a three-show visit to Raleigh, North Carolina. At 8 it’s the first episode of This Emotional Life, a three-part series that runs through Wednesday. It examines the relationships we have with our fellow human beings and why they are so important to our emotional well being. Special guests include Chevy Chase, Larry David, Alanis Morissette, Katie Couric and Richard Gere.

On Wednesday at 7, Alan Alda hosts the first episode of The Human Spark, a three-part series about what makes humans different from all the over species on Earth.

On Sunday at 8, it’s the premiere of Return to Cranford on Masterpiece. The cast features Dame Judi Dench, It continues the story of life in the small town of Cranford. The second and final episode airs next Sunday.

TWO GREAT CONCERTS ARE COMING TO BATON ROUGE IN THE NEXT FOUR MONTHS

LPB The lovely ladies of Celtic Woman and violin virtuoso David Garrett will be in Baton Rouge in the coming months. David Garrett will perform at the Baton Rouge River Center Theater on February 17 and Celtic Woman will be at the Baton Rouge River Center Arena on April 24. As usual, Friends has the best seats in the house.

NOW IS THE TIME TO NOMINATE A YOUNG HERO!

LPB A lot of attention is given to the young people who get into trouble or underachieve in school, but often the students who do exceptionally well in the classroom or make a huge difference in their community do not receive the recognition they deserve. That’s why LPB and the Rotary Club of Baton Rouge created the Louisiana Young Heroes Awards. Now in its 15th year, the awards honor students in grades 7-12 who have excelled in the classroom, have served their community or have shown great courage in overcoming adversity in their own lives.

Nominations are now being taken for the 2010 Louisiana Young Heroes Awards. Students must be enrolled in a Louisiana school or homeschooled and cannot be older than 19 years of age.

Some of our previous Young Heroes have overcome physical handicaps, raised money for charity, cared for family members, assisted hurricane victims, and even saved lives.

Nomination forms can be downloaded from the LPB website (www.lpb.org/heroes) or filled out on the online form. Letters of recognition and other supporting materials must be sent to support the nomination. Students who have been nominated in past years may be re-nominated for this year’s awards. Previous winners are not eligible. The deadline for entries is Friday, February 5, 2010. Winners will be announced on the air on March 5, 2010.

Young Heroes Day will be April 21, 2010. The Young Heroes will be treated to a day full of activities including lunch on the grounds of the Governor’s Mansion. The day will culminate in a banquet that night at the Crowne Plaza in Baton Rouge.

The awards are co-presented by the Baton Rouge Rotary Club and underwritten by Credit Bureau of Baton Rouge. Inc. and ExxonMobil.

HISTORY CAFÉ

LPB Thursday, January 28 at 7PM - Citiplace Barnes & Noble in Baton Rouge - "Myths about the Old West" is the topic and will include a discussion about the American Experience documentary Wyatt Earp. - LSU History Professor Dr. Charles Shindo, an expert on the American West, will be the guest speaker.

**SEE STORYTELLING WITH JJ & FRIENDS ON LPB1 & LPB2**

The 90-second segments feature the stories of Lafayette teacher, storyteller and author Janie Spaht Gill. Gill worked with LPB producer Allegra Nevils Yancey and videographer-editor Keith Crews to create the segments which are based on Gill’s books for young readers. Gill, who has a doctorate in Reading from LSU, currently teaches gifted students in Lafayette Parish. She has written 60 books for young people over the last 13 years and has more in the works.

In each episode, Gill plays the role of the storyteller JJ with a group of children acting out the roles in the story. The rest of the cast includes Brewster and Amelia Durbin, along with Paige and Peyton Sias, and Willie and Molly Briggs of Lafayette, Gill’s granddaughter Lanie Grace Everett and Helen Valadie of Baton Rouge.
