THE 2010 LOUISIANA LEGENDS GALA IS A HIT
Thanks to everyone who attended this year’s Louisiana Legends Gala and Auction on Thursday at the Old State Capitol. We honored Rock and Roll Hall of Fame guitarist James Burton, former State Education Superintendent and businessman Louis Michot, arts activist Marjorie Morrison, NBA legend and Basketball Hall of Famer Willis Reed, and former Governor and Congressman Buddy Roemer.

DR. AMEN TICKETS AVAILABLE
World renowned psychiatrist, brain imaging specialist and best-selling author Dr. Daniel Amen will be in Baton Rouge on Sunday, June 6 to talk about his latest book, Change Your Brain, Change Your Body: Use Your Brain to Get and Keep the Body You Have Always Wanted. During his seminars he explains how boosting your brainpower can improve your weight, skin, heart, energy, and focus. The seminar will be from 3 to 5PM at the BREC Independence Park Theatre, 7800 Independence Blvd in Baton Rouge.

LIBRARY CORNERS OPEN IN CALCASIEU AND OUACHITA
LPB and the Calcasieu and Ouachita Library Systems have joined forces to create PBS KIDS Raising Readers Library Corners in those parishes. The Reading Corners will be located at the Central Calcasieu Parish Library and the Sulphur Libraries in Calcasieu and the Ouachita Parish Library in Monroe. The Library Corners are designed to give children, ages 2 to 8, the opportunity to strengthen their literacy skills through free, fun activities at their local public or school library. As part of the initiative, each Library Corner is equipped with an array of multimedia resources including 26 interactive reading activities and a corresponding DVD. The activities and clips were developed and taken from research-based PBS KIDS Raising Readers project for early childhood education.
