As we head into Memorial Day weekend, take a moment to remember all the men and women who have given their lives in the defense of our country. Gary Sinise and Joe Mantegna host the annual National Memorial Day Concert from the U.S. Capitol on Sunday at 7PM with an encore showing at 8:30PM. The evening starts at 6PM with Charlie Whinham’s award-winning documentary Louisiana Experience: World War II Stories which tells the story of Louisiana veterans who served with distinction in the war.

On Wednesday, check out this month’s Louisiana Public Square. The topic is Church & the Bayou State: Religion in Louisiana.

On Thursday at 10AM, the 22nd annual National Geographic Bee.

On Friday, Louisiana: The State We’re In will have the latest on the oil spill in the Gulf and an update on the Legislative Session at 7PM. Also check out the new PBS public affairs show Need to Know at 8:30PM.

On Saturday at 2PM, we have highlights from the 2009 Great American Seafood Cookoff in which 15 chefs from around the country prepared their favorite seafood recipes.

GREAT ART FOR A GREAT CAUSE

Online bidding will continue through June 13 when the live auction show airs from 6 to 9PM.

THERE’S STILL TIME TO GET TICKETS FOR DR. DANIEL AMEN’S SEMINAR ON JUNE 6

LPB World renowned psychiatrist, brain imaging specialist and best-selling author Dr. Daniel Amen will be in Baton Rouge on Sunday, June 6 to talk about his latest book, Change Your Brain, Change Your Body: Use Your Brain to Get and Keep the Body You Have Always Wanted. During his seminars he explains how boosting your brainpower can improve your weight, skin, heart, energy, and focus. The seminar will be from 3 to 5PM at the BREC Independence Park Theatre, 7800 Independence Blvd in Baton Rouge.

Tickets are $45 each for two for a $75 contribution. Both levels include a membership in Friends of LPB. To get your tickets, visit the LPB website or call the Friends Office at 800-272-8161, est. 4214 or 767-4214 in the Baton Rouge area.

If you can’t make it out to see him, Dr. Amen will be in the LPB studios that same night. Tune in from 6 to 10PM on June 6 to see his programs and to see him live on LPB.

FRIENDS HAS TOMMY EMMANUEL CONCERT TICKETS

LPB Friends of LPB has a limited number of tickets for guitar superstar Tommy Emmanuel’s concert at Istrouma Baptist Church in Baton Rouge on June 11. Just visit the LPB website to make your contribution and get tickets to see this guitar virtuoso and consummate showman.

If you are not familiar with Emmanuel, check out his Center Stage concert on LPB on Monday, June 7 and Wednesday, June 9 at 9:30 each night. In addition to tickets to his B.R. concert, we will also have two autographed guitars as thank-you gifts during the show.

Country music star Brad Paisley recently introduced him at the Grand Ole Opry as the “best living guitar player in the world.“ and guitar legends Chet Atkins, Les Paul and Jerry Reed have sung his praises. Named Acoustic Guitar Player of the Year two years in a row by Guitar Player Magazine, Emmanuel has also been nominated for two Grammys.
