Boy, have been busy this past week. It started on Wednesday with the premiere of Lafayette: The Lost Hero at the LITE Center in Lafayette. Special thanks to the Fondation Louisiane, the Marquis de Lafayette 250th Anniversary Committee and Lafayette Consolidated Government and to Café Vermilionville for providing the food and beverages for the event with Mello Joy providing the coffee.

On Thursday and Friday, it was LPB Discovery Education Days with a special appearance by Philippe Cousteau, visits to the LSU Laboratory School and Westdale Middle in Baton Rouge and a day-long workshop for teachers on how to use the LPB Cyberchannel resources on Friday.

On Saturday, Friends of LPB hosted the LPB Antiques Fair at LPB. Thanks to appraisers Rich Angelico, Danny Brown, George Clark, David Goldberg, Randy Haynie and Mike Wynne.

We also co-hosted our Science Fun for Everyone kids event at Cortana Mall with Ruff Ruffman.

Thanks to our partner and LPB Kids Club Sponsor Cortana Mall and participating organizations: LIGO, Society of Women Engineers Baton Rouge Chapter, Building Louisiana Science & Technology (BLAST), Sci-Port Discovery Center of Shreveport, the Barataria Terrebonne National Estuary Program, LSU School of Math, Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality, the Safety Council, the American Society of Civil Engineers, Baton Rouge Chapter, Baton Rouge Astronomical Society (BRAS) and the Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency (LOPA). Also thanks to Stephanie Riegel and Tracey Koch of Kids Soup, Ken Stage of the St. George Observatory, and the Baton Rouge Zoo education team. Over 300 people attended the event which featured hands-on science exhibits and demonstrations.

Tonight at 9, it is the broadcast premiere of Lafayette: The Lost Hero.

On Wednesday at 8, get your Conga line started for Latin Music USA and In Performance at the White House: Fiesta Latina at 10.

On Thursday, there is an encore showing of Lafayette at 7 and a new Doc Martin at 9.

On Sunday at 8, there is a new Masterpiece Mystery! with Inspector Lewis as he tries to solve the murder of a quiz show contestant. At 9:30, there is an encore showing of Gwen Roland’s memoir Atchafalaya Houseboat.

FRIENDS OF LPB ANNUAL MEETING SET FOR TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 14

LPB If you are a member of Friends of LPB, you are invited to the Friends annual meeting on Tuesday, September 14 at the LPB Telecommunications Center at 7733 Perkins Road in Baton Rouge. The reception starts at 6:30 and the meeting starts at 7PM. There will be a special preview of PBS and LPB programs coming up this year. Food will be provided by White Oak Plantation.
