THE GREAT SHERLOCK DEBATE

LPB Do you love the classic Basil Rathbone and Jeremy Brett versions of Sherlock Holmes or the new Masterpiece Mystery! version set in modern times with Dr. Watson chronicling Holmes’s exploits on a blog? Come join the discussion on Thursday, November 4 at 6:30PM at the Citiplace Barnes & Noble in Baton Rouge. LSU Graduate Student Kris Mecholsky will be the guest speaker and will moderate the discussion. There will be free scones and coffee.

To get ready for the discussion, watch the new Sherlock mysteries on October 24 and 31 at 8PM on LPB and the Jeremy Brett versions on Thursdays at 8PM or Saturdays at 6PM. Did you know that over 70 actors have portrayed Holmes and more than 10,000 books have been written using the character? If Sir Arthur Conan Doyle had been more successful as a physician, Sherlock Holmes may never have existed. A lack of patients gave Doyle the time to write the original Sherlock Holmes stories.

LPB’S BIRTHDAY WAS ALSO “LABOR” DAY!

LPB On September 6, 1975 at 11:58 a.m., LPB sent out its first signal to television sets in Baton Rouge. To commemorate our 35th birthday, LPB contacted one hospital within each of its broadcast cities: Baton Rouge, Lafayette, Lake Charles, Alexandria, Monroe, and Shreveport, to find babies born closest to LPB’s birthdate and time. These six babies – five boys and a girl – each received a bouquet and a lifetime membership in the LPB Kids Club. We will also treat them to lots of LPB and PBS goodies.

In Baton Rouge, Woman’s Hospital welcomed William Hight into the world at 10:23 a.m. As the third child of Kimberly May, William had better get used to the spotlight since his parents are organizers and participants of the annual Louisiana Renaissance Festival in Hammond. Williams’ father, Richie Hight, is the IT manager for the event and his mom is a “peasant” in full medieval garb.

Women’s & Children’s Hospital in Lafayette greeted 7lbs. 11oz. Edward John Broussard at 12:30 p.m. Edward’s proud parents are Gordon and Candace Broussard of Lafayette.
Lake Charles Memorial Hospital was the setting for Brock Brazos’ birth at 12:24 p.m. Justin Brazos and Bethany Breaux of Sulphur are Brock’s mommy and daddy.

In Cenla, Jada Milton – our only baby girl – was born at 11:37 a.m. at Rapides Women’s and Children’s Hospital. Jada’s happy mother is Joie Milton of Alexandria.

In Monroe, Priscilla and Spence Turner became first-time parents to 7lbs. 15oz. Kalan Scott Turner. Kalan was born at 12:01 p.m. at St. Francis Medical Center.

We hope to be able to share "our" Shreveport baby boy with you very soon!
