Today marks our 35th birthday! WLPB went on the air on September 6, 1975 at 11:58 AM. We will have a number of events throughout the year to commemorate this anniversary that we will tell you about as we get closer to them. And happy Labor Day, too!

Tonight at 7, Antiques Roadshow brings back some of the biggest finds during the series.

Tuesday at 8, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer James Burton is interviewed on Louisiana Legends.

On Wednesday at 7, get your ♪ cha cha ♫ on -- it’s the return of Latin Music USA, a series that looks at how Latin music combined with and transformed American music.

On Thursday at 9, Doc Martin is his usual crabby self.

On Friday at 9:30, former Governor Buddy Roemer is interviewed on Louisiana Legends.

On Sunday at 8, Inspector Lewis tries to get to the bottom of the murder of the head of a college on Masterpiece Mystery! That’s followed by a preview of the upcoming series Circus at 9:30. This series, which premieres November 3, takes you behind the scenes to see what life is really like under the Big Top.

LAFAYETTE: THE LOST HERO PREVIEW IN LAFAYETTE IS WEDNESDAY

LPB There’s still time to get your ticket for the September 8 preview of Lafayette: The Lost Hero at the LITE Center in Lafayette. It is sponsored by LPB, La Fondation Louisiane, the Marquis de Lafayette 250th Anniversary Committee and Lafayette Consolidated Government. Seating begins at 6:30 with the screening at 7:00. A champagne reception will followed the screening. Café Vermilionville is providing the food and beverages for the event with Mello Joy providing the coffee. The event is a fundraiser for Friends of LPB with part of the proceeds going to send an Acadiana area student to study in France through the auspices of Fondation Louisiane. If you can’t make the premiere, the documentary airs on LPB on Monday, September 13 at 9PM.

COME JOIN US FOR SOME SCIENCE FUN SATURDAY!

LPB LPB and Cortana Mall will sponsor “Science Fun for Everyone” at Cortana Mall on Saturday, September 11 from 11AM to 3PM. The event will be held at Cortana Mall in the Plaza Area near Entrance #2.

Ruff Ruffman from PBS's Fetch! with Ruff Ruffman will make a special appearance and take pictures with the children. There will be hand-on, interactive science exhibits for children 12 years of age and younger. LPB’s Science Fun partners include: the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Baton Rouge Astronomical Society, the Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency (LOPA), LIGO, the Barataria-Terrebonne National Estuary Program, Trevor McGuire from the LSU School of Mathematics, BLAST, the Louisiana Society of Women Engineers, the Baton Rouge Zoo, and Ken Stage from the St. George Observatory in Schriever, Louisiana. Stephanie and Tracey from LPB’s Kids Soup online will also have a special cooking demonstration.

Children will receive a special prize if they collect stamps from all of the exhibits at the event.

The purpose of the event is to show how much fun science and math can be and encourage youngsters to think about careers in science, technology, engineering and math.

SPEAKING OF SCIENCE AND FUN...

LPB Philippe Cousteau, the grandson of Captain Jacques Cousteau, will be in Baton Rouge on Thursday to make appearances at the LSU Lab School and Westdale Middle School. Philippe is the head of Chief Spokesperson for Environmental Education for the Discovery Channel will discuss the importance of science education in our schools. Discovery provides most of the content for the LPB Cyberchannel which provides online videos and clips to almost 30,000 teachers in all 66 school districts in Louisiana. A number of schools will be honored for their participation with Discovery and the LPB Cyberchannel on Thursday night at a special reception.

FRIENDS OF LPB ANNUAL MEETING SET FOR TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 14TH

LPB If you are a member of Friends of LPB, you are invited to the Friends annual meeting on Tuesday, September 14 at the LPB Telecommunications Center at 7733 Perkins Road in Baton Rouge. The reception starts at 6:30 and the meeting starts at 7PM. There will be a special preview of PBS and LPB programs coming up this year. Food will be provided by White Oak Plantation.

ART AUCTION MOVING TO OCTOBER

LPB Friends of LPB has moved the Art & Travel Auction to the fall! You will have a chance to get that very special Christmas gift for the art lovers in your family on October 24 during our live airing of the Art & Travel Auction.

Artists who would like to contribute can contact Friends of LPB at (225) 776-4462 or 1-800-272-8161 ext. 4462. We would love to show off your creation!

We will kick off the auction with LPB’s Art Rocks on October 1 from 7 to 9PM at the Louisiana State Museum. Come view the art that will be up for bids during our live two-hour event starting at 5PM on Sunday, October 24. Online bidding also begins on October 1.

LPB Right now, we have six hospitals - in the city of each of LPB's transmitter sites - on standby, awaiting the births of babies born closest to LPB's sign-on time...September 6th at 11:58 a.m. The "winning" newborn at Woman's Hospital in Baton Rouge, Lake Charles Memorial Hospital, St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe, the Willis-Knighton Health System in Shreveport, Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria, and Women's and Children's Hospital in Lafayette will each receive a lifetime LPB Kids Club membership and a basket full of LPB and PBS goodies. We can't wait to share our little bundles of joy with you!
