“Louisiana: The State We’re In” in 33rd year on LPB »»»

  • Louisiana’s only statewide newsmagazine began its 33rd year on Louisiana Public Broadcasting on Friday, September 4 at 7PM.
Louisiana: The State We're In - Season 33 The program is simulcast on WLAE-TV32 in New Orleans and also airs on Sundays at 2PM on the six-station LPB network.

Louisiana: The State We’re In was started by current LPB President Beth Courtney in September 1976, LPB’s second year of operation.

Award-winning journalists Charlie Whinham and Shauna Sanford are the producers and hosts for the program which combines the important Louisiana news of the week with interesting features about the people and places that make this state such an interesting place to live.

Whinham, who serves as managing editor, is in his fifth year with the show. He views the program as part newscast and part travelogue.
Louisiana: The State We're In has given me the opportunity to travel to every corner of the state and meet hundreds of interesting people with a story to tell.” Whinham said. “Field trips were always one of the best days during school and I feel like I get to go out on a field trip each time I head out to find great Louisiana people and places.”

Now in her second year, Sanford handles most of the hard news content on the show, keeping the public informed about what is happening in state government and the Legislature.

“Having anywhere from 5 to 7 minutes to tell a story is a reporter’s dream, especially when you’re used to having only a minute and a half,” Sanford says.
She also enjoys hearing from the show’s viewers.

“It is always wonderful to receive feedback about our stories and it lets us know that viewers are genuinely interested in what’s going on statewide,” Sanford says.
