A Summer of Birds »»»Share your thoughts about the program. This LPB documentary details a relatively unknown chapter in the life of the renowned naturalist painter John James Audubon. It chronicles the summer he spent in Louisiana in the lush surroundings of Oakley Plantation in West Feliciana Parish. The documentary is based on the acclaimed book by Danny Heitman titled A Summer of Birds: John James Audubon at Oakley House which was published by LSU Press. Award-winning LPB producer Christina Melton (Atchafalaya Houseboat, Louisiana: A History) produced the documentary. Award-winning LPB videographer Rex. Q. Fortenberry shot and edited the program. Funding for this documentary was provided by a grant from the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities. |
