Mr. Jamieson was appointed to serve as FEMA Deputy Director for Gulf Coast Recovery where he manages FEMA's ongoing recovery work in the states impacted by the 2005 Gulf Coast hurricanes. In this role, Mr. Jamieson serves as the key point of contact for Don Powell, Federal Coordinator of Gulf Coast Rebuilding, and reports to Acting FEMA Director David Paulison.
Before being appointed to this post, Mr. Jamieson served as the Deputy Principal Federal Official for Hurricane Katrina under Coast Guard Vice Admiral Thad Allen. Mr. Jamieson also previously served as Acting Director of the National Incident Management System (NIMS) Integration Center (NIC) and Deputy Director of FEMA's Preparedness Division. The NIC coordinates the nation's implementation of NIMS though programs of: Resource Planning and Coordination, Training and Exercises, Compliance and Evaluation, and Standards, Technology and Research & Development.
Mr. Jamieson has held a number of national level FEMA positions dating back to 1979, having managed Disaster Assistance Programs and holding key management positions in the Office of Chief Financial Officer, the Inspector General, and the Federal Insurance and Mitigation Administration.
In the Federal Insurance and Mitigation Administration, Mr. Jamieson served as Director of Risk Assessment where his responsibilities included directing risk assessment and hazard vulnerability analysis for all natural and technological hazards including: flood, earthquake, hurricane, and dam safety. Mr. Jamieson was a principal architect and directed the development of a nationally applicable loss estimation methodology. The results of the assessments produced through this methodology continue to serve as the basis for Federal, State, and local mitigation strategies and initiatives.
As Director of Mitigation Planning, Mr. Jamieson's responsibilities included implementing the new Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000 and oversight of new programs and formulation of national planning strategies and policies for use by State and local governments. These programs were designed to address both pre and post disaster periods and long-term economic recovery efforts.
Prior to directing the NIMS Integration Center, Mr. Jamieson served as Director of the Program Coordination Division in FEMA's Office of National Preparedness, where he was responsible for establishing an organization and directing a team of experts that coordinated Federal, State, local, and Community and Family preparedness programs in the post 9-11 era.
Mr. Jamieson earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Administration from Western Michigan University, holds a Master of Arts degree from the Catholic University of America, and is a graduate of the Industrial College of the Armed Forces (ICAF). He currently resides in Annandale, Virginia with his wife, Maureen, and their three children: Emily, Mark, and Kyle.

Eleven years ago, Hurricane Katrina swept through Southeast Louisiana, triggering what would become the nation’s costliest disaster. Less than a month later, Hurricane Rita inundated Southwest Louisiana forever altering the landscape. The storms uprooted residents, while the rest of Louisiana and its neighboring states welcomed them with open arms.
What affect did the storms have on economic development along the I-10 corridor? Just over a decade later, how have public services changed? How prepared is Louisiana to handle hurricane evacuees? And how did the hurricanes change the demographics of the state?
This month Louisiana Public Square takes a look at where the state is now on an encore presentation of “Louisiana Post-Katrina: A Decade of Difference” airing Wednesday, August 17 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, August 21 at 11 a.m. on LPB HD.
