DEADLINE TO NOMINATE A YOUNG HERO IS FRIDAY!
You probably know at least one young person - maybe more - who is an inspiration...not just to their peers, but to everyone he or she meets. That’s why LPB and the Rotary Club of Baton Rouge created the Louisiana Young Heroes Awards. Now in its 17th year, the awards honor students in grades 7-12 who have excelled in the classroom, have served their community and/or have shown great courage in overcoming adversity in their own lives.
Nominations are now being taken for the 2011 Louisiana Young Heroes Awards. Students must be enrolled in a Louisiana school or home-schooled and cannot be older than 19 years of age. Previous winners are ineligible.
Some of our previous Young Heroes have overcome physical handicaps or personal tragedies, helped others after hurricanes, cared for family members, started charitable foundations, and even saved lives. You can read profiles and see videos of previous years' Young Heroes on our website. Young Heroes also have a Facebook page - we would love to have you become our friend!

READ ACROSS LOUISIANA DAY
Friday, March 2nd is Read Across Louisiana Day and Dr. Seuss’ Birthday. Last year, we had many volunteers reading to children. If you’d like to read at your child’s or grandchild’s school or daycare, great! If you don’t have a group of children to read to, we’d be happy to help you find a classroom. We’d love for you to post pictures on LPB's Raising Readers Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/lpbraisingreaders).
“YOU'RE NEVER TOO OLD, TOO WACKY, TOO WILD, TO PICK UP A BOOK AND READ WITH A CHILD!”
