Louisiana Public Broadcasting will feature musical greats, from Chubby Checker to Pavarotti, during its Summerfest membership campaign, which runs from August 9-24.
All of the money raised during these campaigns is used to purchase and create the programming which airs throughout the year on the six-channel LPB network.
On Sunday at 7PM, LPB airs Great Performances 40th Anniversary Concert. The concert features an all-star lineup of performances including Tony-winner Audra McDonald, and Grammy-winners Josh Groban, Don Henley, Itzhak Perlman and Michael Bublé along with memorable highlights from the show’s four decades on the air.
“Its simple premise was to provide a home for the world’s greatest artists. The series would be a showcase for the best in music, drama and dance. And as you will see tonight, four decades later, this vision not only succeeded, but it has grown to give viewers across the country a front row seat to the performing arts,” Julie Andrews said.
Also airing Sunday at 5:30PM will be an encore showing of Bayou Bartholomew, a documentary about the world’s longest bayou which stretches from Pine Bluff, Arkansas to Sterlington, Louisiana. At 9PM, Return to Downton Abbey, hosted by Susan Sarandon, will have an encore showing.
