LPB has a wide range of programs including musical performances and documentaries premiering during its Winterfest 2014 membership campaign. The drive runs from Thursday, November 27th through Sunday, December 14 with the money going to create and purchase the programming which airs throughout the year on LPB.
Everything kicks off on November 27 at 7PM with The Big Band Years, a nostalgic look at the major musical stars of the 1930s and 40s. At 9PM, Great Performances features legendary crooner Tony Bennett and pop sensation Lady Gaga performing. At 10:30, A Celebration of Blues and Soul features the late Stevie Ray Vaughan and an all-star lineup performing at President George Bush’s inauguration part in 1989.
On Friday, November 28th at 9PM, Kristin Chenoweth: Coming Home features the Broadway star traveling back to her hometown of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma for a special concert.
On Saturday, November 29 at 7PM, see Great Performances Barbra Streisand: Back to Brooklyn which includes performances of songs from her five-decade career. At 9, enjoy The Best of 50s Pop featuring Frankie Laine and Patti Page.
Downton Abbey Rediscovered (11/30 at 8 & 9:30PM) looks back at the first four series and previews the upcoming fifth season which starts Sunday, January 4.
Antiques Roadshow Junk in the Trunk 4 (Part 1) (Monday, December 1 at 7PM) has appraisals from the 18 shows from Roadshow’s 2014 season. At 8:30PM, see 50 Years with Peter, Paul & Mary, a new documentary on the legendary folk trio.
On Tuesday, December 2 at 7PM Bing Crosby Rediscovered: American Masters profiles the singer and movie star and includes never before seen footage.
Best of Birds (12/3 at 7PM) is a compilation of the most compelling, emotional and even humorous stories about bird behavior, intelligence and flight from the Nature archives. That’s followed at 8PM by NOVA First Man on the Moon, a profile of Neil Armstrong.
On Thursday, December 4 at 8:30PM, Renée Fleming - Christmas in New York features the world renowned soprano Renée Fleming performing popular seasonal favorites.
A Tribute to Bruce Springsteen (Friday, December 5 at 9PM) has an all-star lineup performing Bruce’s songs along with a performance by the Boss himself.
Great Performances Encores! Great Performances at the Met (Saturday, December 6 at 5PM) features 19 unforgettable arias and duets selected from the past eight seasons of the series performed by today’s greatest opera stars. That’s followed at 7PM by Rock Rewind 1965-1967 with classic performances by The Byrds, The Monkees, and The Rascals, and Victor Borge’s Timeless Comedy! at 8:30PM.
On Sunday, December 7 at 7 and 9PM, we premiere two of the last episodes of the popular Poirot mysteries. That’s followed by Burt Bacharach’s Best that includes performances of the legendary songwriter’s songs by the original artists.
On Monday, December 8 at 7PM, LPB’s Charlie Whinham travels to Natchitoches for the 300th anniversary of the founding of the oldest permanent settlement in Louisiana. That’s followed by Celtic Woman: Home for Christmas at 8PM.
A Tribute to Toussaint (Tuesday, December 9 at 7PM) profiles the New Orleans songwriter and producer with interviews and performances by some of his famous friends.
Jackie Evancho – Awakening - Live in Concert is a new concert featuring the teenaged singing star. At 8:30PM, Classic Hollywood Musicals looks back at The Wizard of Oz, Yankee Doodle Dandy, Singin’ in the Rain, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, and Viva Las Vegas.
On Thursday, December 11 at 7PM, join Chef John Folse for a preview of his new series Hooks, Lie & Alibis.
On Friday, December 12 at 9PM, it’s an encore showing of Great Performances Pavarotti: A Voice for the Ages.
On Saturday, December 13 at 7PM, it’s Happy Holidays: The Best of the Andy Williams Christmas Shows followed at 8:30 by Il Volo Buon Natale featuring the vocal trio performing holiday classics.
The drive wraps up on Sunday, December 14 at 7PM with Celtic Woman: Home for Christmas and Curtain: Poirot’s Last Case (8PM) as the Belgian sleuth tracks down a serial killer.
