MAKERS.com is a dynamic digital platform produced by filmmakers Dyllan McGee, Betsy West, and Peter Kunhardt, developed by AOL, showcasing hundreds of compelling stories from women of today and tomorrow. This historic video initiative features exclusive access to trailblazing women – both known and unknown.
In conjunction with the premiere of Makers: Women Who Make America, LPB has profiled eight Louisiana women who were trailblazers in their chosen fields.
The profiles feature:
Former Governor Kathleen Blanco, the only female governor in the Louisiana history
Corrine “Lindy” Boggs, the first female Congress member from Louisiana who served eight-terms and served as U.S. Ambassador to the Vatican
Brigadier Gen. Sherian Cadoria (Ret), the first African-American woman to obtain the rank of General in the U.S. Army.
Leah Chase, the Queen of Creole Cooking
Former Chief Justice of the Louisiana Supreme Court Katherine “Kitty” Kimball, the first female Justice and Chief Justice for that court.
U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu, the only woman elected to a full term in that position. She is now in her third term.
Linda Thomas-Greenfield, former Ambassador to Liberia and the Director General of Foreign Service and Director of Human Resources for the U.S. State Department.
Martha White, the African-American woman whose decision to sit in a white-only section of a Baton Rouge bus in 1953 led to the eight-day Baton Rouge Bus Boycott
