Louisiana Public Broadcasting (LPB) is a network of six public television stations licensed to the Louisiana Educational Television Authority. The flagship station of the network and its studio and operationg center is Station WLPB-TV, Baton Rouge. LPB has had a year-round internship program in place since approximately 1983. This program is designed to recruit students from accredited colleges and universities who are interested in a career in broadcasting. The students are provided an opportunity to gain work experience and receive training in their areas of their educational major or field of interest, i.e. engineering, production or advertising. LPB has at least 6 active interns at any given time. LPB also provides training to management level employees on methods to prevent discrimination.

Internship Program |
WLPB-TV has had an on-going Internship Program since 1983. During this reporting period (1/22/2010-1/21/2011), there were a total of 10 interns working to gain experience in their areas of interest. |

2/10/10-Attended Career Day at Southern University and 3/30/10-Attended Mass Communications Recruitment Night at Louisiana State University |

Scholarship |
12/06/10-Louisiana Public Broadcasting awarded its annual Mass Comm Scholarship to a student at Southern University. Outstanding Mass Comm students from LSU and Southern University were invited to submit applications for the scholarship. |

Other Activities |
Throughout the year, LPB has participated in approximately 8 activities that provided information about television, television careers, training broadcast skills, and other programs designed to promote outreach in general. |

Human Resources Director provided training to management level employees on methods of preventing discrimination and ensuring Equal Opportunity Employment on 4/30/10 and 11/19/10. |

10 college students participated in internships in production, engineering, business, and programming departments. |

Human Res Dir and Production Manager participated in Career Day at Southern University on February 10, 2010 and Mass Communications Recruitment Night at Louisiana State University on 3/30/10. |

12/06/10 - LETA awarded a scholarship to a student pursuing a career in broadcasting. |

Other Activities
- 4/6/10-General Manager spoke to a group of citizens on Capitol Day at the State Capitol on Louisiana Archive projects and outreach activities for LPB
- 11/12/10-General Manager spoke to a Network Group on local productions, presenting trailers and giving tours and information on career opportunities in broadcasting
- 11/16/10-General Manager spoke to a group at the City Club during Corporation for Public Broadcasting President’s visit
- 12/2/10-Producer Dorothy Kendrick spoke on WRKF promoting LPB local programming, outreach and career opportunities
- 6/15/10-Producer Kevin Gautreaux conducted general outreach with the Legislative Youth Advisory Council for presentations of Louisiana Public Square-which airs bi-monthly
- 1/27/10-Promotions Director Bob Neese was involved in outreach activities at Barnes and Noble meeting with members of the public to discuss myths about the Old West
- 4/18/10-Promotions Director Bob Neese was involved in outreach activities at Old State Capitol for a screening of Earth Days
- 9/11/10-Promotions Director Bob Neese and Education Outreach Coordinator Lenora Brown conducted Science Fun for Everyone at a local mall and conducted experiments with children and spoke about broadcasting.
