Long-term Recruitment Initiatives |
Louisiana Public Broadcasting (LPB) is a network of six public television stations licensed to the Louisiana Educational Television Authority. The flagship station of the network and its studio and operating center is Station WLPB-TV, Baton Rouge. LPB has had a year-round internship program in place since approximately 1983. This program is designed to recruit students from accredited colleges and universities who are interested in a career in broadcasting. The students are provided an opportunity to gain work experience and receive training in areas of their educational major or field of interest, i.e. engineering, production or advertising. LPB has at least 6 active interns at any given time. LPB also provides training to management level employees on methods to prevent discrimination.

Internship Program |
WLPB-TV has had an on-going Internship Program since 1983. During this reporting period (1/22/09-1/21/2010), there were a total of 6 interns working to gain experience in their areas of interest. |

2/11/2009 Attended Career Day at Southern University and 3/26/09-Attended Mass Communications Recruitment Night at Louisiana State University |

Scholarship |
12/03/09-Louisiana Public Broadcasting awarded its annual Mass Comm Scholarship to a student at Louisiana State University. Outstanding Mass Comm students from LSU and Southern University were invited to submit applications for the scholarship; however, LSU only submitted applications for the scholarship. |

Other Activities |
Throughout the year, LPB has participated in approximately 8 activities that provided information about television, television careers, training broadcast skills, and other programs designed to promote outreach in general. Also served on Southern University Mass Comm Advisory Board participating in roundtable discussions with other broadcasters regarding careers and broadcast employment issues. |
