Christy Reeves of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana, LPB President/CEO Beth Courtney and Project Director Gary Mire.

Louisiana Public Broadcasting is helping young people of Louisiana lose weight and get in shape.

The project is called Step It Up! and is funded by a $38,000 grant from BlueCross BlueShield of LA.

LPB will provide information from health professionals for tweens and teens on the best ways to control and reduce their weight. Using a social media online network, young people will be motivated and encouraged to get active and eat healthier. Schools and youth groups across the state will participate in activities designed to encourage a healthy lifestyle.

The online content will include excerpts from LPB’s award-winning series Kids: Trying to Trim Down and Step by Step: Kids Trimming Down.

Health professionals will also answer questions online and provide tips for children and their parents on the best ways to successfully tackle childhood obesity.
