LPB & Carencro High School Win CPB Educational Innovation Award »»»

  • LPB and Carencro High School were honored by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting for the Fiber Kids program.
The award was presented at the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) Legislative Conference, on Saturday, March 20 in Washington, D.C.

LPB partnered with Carencro High, the Lafayette Utility System, the Bay Area Video Coalition and the Louisiana Immersive Technologies Enterprise (LITE) to enhance the technology and instruction at the high school by providing more bandwidth to the school and to the home, expanding instruction to include the creation of 3-D models and training students for careers in technology.

The partnership and the introduction of broadband in the classroom has allowed the students to be exposed to a wide range of virtual training classes including how to create 3-D models and work on oil wells. One goal of the project is to encourage the students to pursue careers in the technological fields
The awards are presented to public television stations and their educational partners for coming up with innovative ideas in the classroom, on-air and online.
