Louisiana Public Broadcasting is asking parents, grandparents and other members of the community to join in the celebration of Dr. Seuss’ 109th birthday by reading one of his books to schoolchildren in their area on Friday, March 1 as part of “Read Across Louisiana Day.”
LPB’s main activity will be held Friday, March 1 at 9:30AM at the ExxonMobil YMCA in North Baton Rouge where hundreds of children from North Baton Rouge Head Start Centers will hear celebrities reading The Cat in the Hat, Yertle the Turtle, Green Eggs and Ham
and other Dr. Seuss favorites.
To get involved, all you have to do is to contact the elementary or pre-school or daycare where your child or grandchild attends and ask to read on March 1. If you don’t have a child in school, just contact one of the schools in your area. LPB is asking all participants in “Read Across Louisiana Day” to post their pictures on the LPB Raising Readers Facebook page by March 8 to enter a drawing for a special Cat in the Hat prize.
As part of the celebration, PBS Kids is premiering two new episodes of The Cat In The Hat Knows A Lot About That!
series and a new game called the “Swirly Whirly Pearl Hunt.” Check out the game at lpb.org/kids
