  • More Quality Programming!
The Whooping Crane’s Majestic Return and Black Bear Comeback, the first two programs in the Alive! In America’s Delta series have been honored with Silver Telly Awards. Major funding for the Alive! series was provided by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

The Whooping Crane’s Majestic Return looks at the efforts to restore the Whooping Crane population in Louisiana after the birds almost became extinct in the 1940s. LPB followed Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries biologists and their partners as they worked to reintroduce the Whooping Crane into Louisiana’s wetlands for the first time in half a century. The show was produced by LPB’s Donna LaFleur who was the principal editor and wrote the script with Al Godoy and Christina Melton. Rex Q. Fortenberry shot the program and Emmy-winner Mike Esneault provided the music.

In the 1990s, there were fewer than 400 Louisiana Black Bears left in the world. Black Bear Comeback details the aggressive efforts by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and private landowners around the state to reestablish this endangered animal to its original habitat and to restore that habitat. Because of these efforts over the last two decades, the Louisiana Black Bear is close to being removed from protected status. The program was produced by Liz Magno Barnes and edited by Rex Q. Fortenberry, who was also the principal videographer for the program. Gary Allen also shot video. Emmy-winner Mike Esneault created the musical score for the program.
