LSU's Golden Band From Tigerland and Southern University's Band, nicknamed "The Human Jukebox," are two of the best and most honored college bands in America. LPB tells their stories.
The Golden Band from Tigerland looks at how band members prepare for every game including the 2001 Sugar Bowl. It includes Lee Greenwood’s performance with the band during the 2001 homecoming game. It also traces the history of the band from its origin in 1893 to the days when Huey Long gave the band just about everything it could possibly want. We also look at some of the more recent band directors who have left strong marks on the L.S.U. marching band including L. Bruce Jones, Tom Tyra, Bill Swor and the current band director, Frank Wickes.
Jamming with the Jags presents recent performances by the Southern Band, including this year’s trip to the Bayou Classic. It also examines the origin of the stage band at Southern and how it was transformed into a marching band. Interesting bits of the history of Southern and the ideals espoused by Joseph and Felton Clark are sprinkled throughout the program. It concludes with the legacy of Isaac Greggs who is 73 years old.
