A Quick Overview of our Course Offerings:
Environmental Science will help prepare students to make personal choices to preserve and protect the environment and human life. With a focus on the environment of Louisiana, learn how our environment is threatened, how the life and culture of Louisiana is being altered, and what personal actions can be taken. In this course, the world of environmental science comes to life as students use real, current and relevant data to explore issues in their own world. LPB’s award-winning videos take students to endangered areas to see the problems firsthand. Hear from professionals about the interrelationship between human life and the environment. Listen as they explain how their work helps keep the world livable. Through engaging activities students will practice balancing protection of the earth’s resources and human need to use resources such as food, shelter and water. Activities encourage students to explore problems and data, draw conclusions and think and act on local and global issues.
Fine Arts Survey will explore how music, dance, drama, and visual arts express what it is to be human through universal themes such as love, hate, and joy. Examine how different works of art elicit emotions. Explore how other cultures portray different world views through their art. Through the amazing videos and online resources from LPB, students will be able to experience Louisiana’s culture through the arts. Learn the elements of the arts and how to use them to describe, interpret, and evaluate works of art. Through the study of great artists and art works, students will develop skills to appreciate contemporary arts (music, dance, theater, and visual arts) throughout their life. The students will develop personal preferences as they learn about art. During the course students will seek opportunities to experience art in their school and/or community. The hope is that the student will take what they have learned in this course and continue to value the arts and seek opportunities to experience the arts throughout their lives.
