Common Core in Louisiana
LSWIE3649 - August 16, 2013
As students return to school across the state we will examine the controversial national math and English program Common Core being implemented for the first time this year. Louisiana, which helped develop the program, is among 22 states that will use standardized tests to measure the progress of students and teachers. But unlike other states using Common Core Louisiana has not developed a uniform process for using the program and that has many teachers on edge. Shauna Sanford will take a look at the details of the program followed by an in-depth discussion with Linda Johnson, a former member of the state’s top school board and was among the first in the state to start developing the program, Holly Boffy, current member of BESE and Steve Monaghan with the Louisiana Federation of Teachers.
