Last year, employer contributions for public pensions cost Louisiana taxpayers $1.78 billion. This amount is projected to grow annually as the state tries to drive down the $18.5 billion deficit of the state retirement systems. Can the state retirement pension systems be revamped while keeping the promise to those who have provided years of public service?
